Wash Your Hands Frequently (and think about where your water comes from...)

In light of the current coronavirus threat, practicing great hygiene is critical. It is also a reminder to think about where the water comes from that enables us to practice great hygiene. As we find ourselves standing at the sink several times a day, washing our hands, let’s consider that practicing basic hygiene helped improve the lives of many people years before the introduction of vaccinations and antibiotics!

The 1854 Cholera Outbreak in London killed nearly 15,000 people before the careful analysis by John Snow, on of the forefathers of epidemiology, led to understanding the source of the problem. An excellent book on the subject is The Ghost Map. Check the book out and you’ll find that having a good, clean source of water for drinking and hygiene is one of the most important/critical aspects to widespread public health.

Good, clean water is why OPS has multiple Distribution and Treatment Operators that are certified by the Drinking Water Operator Certification Program (DWOCP). The DWOCP was originally under the Department of Health Services and then the California Department of Public Health.  In 2014, the DWOCP was transferred to the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB). When you have OPS on the job, you have highly qualified technicians that understand and work to protect your health and water source!

Many of our customers in the Napa Valley rely on their own personal well and submersible well pump to provide water for all their needs. Many of these same customers also have storage tanks to store water in. As you wash your hands and drink lots of water (to stay ahead of the flu/virus season), ask yourself a few questions:

When was the last time I checked to ensure my well water is clean?

Is my well or spring properly sealed so that little critters can’t climb in there?

When was the last time my storage tank was cleaned or checked?

Are there any unpleasant tastes, odors or stains that my water causes?

Has something occurred that could contaminate my storage tank water or the water in my well?

The team at OPS regularly helps our neighbors, friends, and clients ensure they have clean water flowing from their faucets every day! Contact us if we can help you keep the water flowing and ensure that it is clean!
