The simplest solutions check many boxes. They often cost the least, involve the least amount of work to install and work for many years to come. American innovators have stepped up and several companies offer solutions that allow well owners to install a hand pump in their well right beside the submersible well pump. Several of our customers have installed these types of pumps for their backup water supply! EarthStraw offers a simple, cost effective design for wells up to 150 feet deep and 100 feet deep. Bison Pumps offer more very high quality options for hand pumps.

Solar Electric Backup Pumps

If your well is large enough to accommodate more than one pump, you may be able to install a simple backup well pump that can run on solar or battery to get you by when the power is out. This EcoWorthy unit has served some of our customers well and is not difficult to install and connect, but do not work without sun. You may opt for this EcoWorthy unit with battery backup that will enable water round the clock. Keep in mind, these units have their limitations. You may not be able to run a shower, do the dishes and water the roses at the same time. If you are careful and try to do one thing at a time, these types of systems can provide enough water to keep the toilets flushing, the dishes washed and the showers running.
